Hi there! My name’s Matthew.

I’m a heritage practitioner who was lucky enough to grow up in the ancient city of Chester.

I believe very strongly that engaging with stories of the past is a really powerful way to inspire us all here in the present. For me, that’s what heritage is all about.

I also love being outdoors and I’m passionate about sharing the unique histories of my hometown.

That’s why I created Here Then Heritage - to help people explore the place where past and present blur together, where all our stories become connected. And what better edge place is there to start with than Chester’s ancient city walls?

When I’m not wandering through time as a tour guide, I also work as an academic researcher. I’m especially interested in how the identities of people and places interact with the landscapes all around them.
